Service Line Warranties of Canada

Residents of South Dundas may have received a letter by mail regarding the Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC)  program. This is legitimate mail from the Municipality. This program is supported by the Municipality and provides plans that give homeowners financial relief from the cost of covered repairs due to breakdowns or major systems inside and outside their homes.

Should you have any questions regarding your letter or the program, contact SLWC at 1-844-616-8444 directly.

Update:

Thank you for your comments. Council and Staff always appreciate feedback on programs; it’s important that we know the feeling from residents, either positive or negative, so we can continue to offer services and experiences that work for you.

With that said, we would like to clear up some confusion on the program.

The Service Line Warranties Program is supported by not only the Municipality of South Dundas, but also the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and 36 other Ontario Municipalities.

Many property owners are unaware that they are responsible for repairs when their underground water/sewer lines fail. Unfortunately, many property owners are unprepared for the associated repair bills.

While most property insurance policies will cover damage to the interior of the dwelling from a sewer line backup or line collapse, they do not reimburse for the cost of repair of the sewer lateral line.  Similarly, water service line leaks or breaks that occur in the section from the property line to the dwelling are typically not covered by property insurance policies. Water damage from broken or leaky interior plumbing is covered by most property insurance policies; however, repairs to the pipes are not.

This program is only an option for residents; there is absolutely no obligation to participate.

We chose to post a notice yesterday as some residents were concerned that the Municipal logo was used without our consent, which was not the case. However, the program and all associated correspondence does not come at any expense to the Municipality.

Should you have any questions about this program, please contact SLWC at 1-844-616-8444 directly.
