South Dundas joins Digital Main Street’s ShopHERE powered by Google program

To support local South Dundas small businesses, the Municipality of South Dundas has joined the ShopHERE powered by Google program. By joining this program, the Municipality hopes to provide small local businesses with the means to build an online presence.

ShopHERE powered by Google helps independent businesses and artists build a digital presence and minimize the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This program offers an opportunity to have a custom online store built at no-cost.

The program is now available to small businesses in the Municipality of South Dundas. Local businesses and artists can sign up for their free online store at https://digitalmainstreet.ca/shophere/.

“We are pleased to be a participating Municipality and I encourage our small business community to sign up and take advantage of this program to build their free online store,” said Rob Hunter, Economic Development Officer.

The ShopHERE powered by Google program is currently open to small independent businesses and artists that meet the following requirements:

  • Is a registered business or a registered non-profit organization;
  • Has a commercial location or is home-based;
  • Has fewer than 10 employees or fewer than 25 employees for restaurants and bars (cannot be a corporate chain or franchise).

On June 11, 2020, the Ontario government, in partnership with the federal government announced even more support, with a $57-million investment in the Digital Main Street platform which will help up to 22,900 Ontario businesses create and enhance their online presence and generate jobs for more than 1,400 students.

Through the $57-million contribution to the Digital Main Street platform, businesses will be able to take advantage of the shopHERE powered by Google Program. It will leverage Ontario’s strengths by hiring highly skilled and trained students to build and support the launch of online stores for businesses that previously did not have the capacity to do so themselves. The core goal will be to help small businesses compete and grow, in a world that is increasingly online, and help them recover as quickly as possible following COVID-19.
