SOUTH DUNDAS – Effective July 26, 2021, Taylor Road Bridge will close to all traffic due to severe structural damage. The decision comes after a recent inspection from Keystone Bridge Management Corp. found the main bridge structure failing in key areas.
During the 2021 Budget deliberations South Dundas Council moved forward with the biannual OSIM bridge inspection operations as required by the Provincial Government. Since the last inspection in 2019, where Taylor Road Bridge was identified for repairs in the near future, there has been significant and unexpected damage.
In order to ensure the safety of our community and those visiting the area, the bridge must remain closed. “With the report from the Keystone engineer, we must close the bridge for the safety of the travelling public who use this road. As much as it will be inconvenient, our resident’s wellbeing is our priority, and we will not take any chances,” said Mayor Steven Byvelds. South Dundas Council will review the inspection findings and discuss next steps in the coming weeks.
The bridge is located between Gilmour Rd. and Kirker Rd. While Taylor Rd. itself remains open, detours via the cross streets will be necessary. South Branch Rd. also remains unaffected by the bridge closure.
