***New dates for 2021 Depot Days! See the table below. More changes may be coming to fall Depot Days. Stay tuned.

Starting in 2021, South Dundas has a NEW composting program!

Did you know, composting sites are provincially mandated and regulated by the Ministry of Environment. Operating the two sites in South Dundas, would require Certificates of Approval which would cost tax payers $200,000 per site. As such, the Morrisburg and Iroquois Compost Sites are CLOSED.

Instead the Municipality will offer Depot Days as well as free leaf and yard waste drop offs at the Matilda Landfill. At a cost of $18,000 the Depot Days offer composting options for residents while avoiding tax increases for the service.

To hear more about Council’s decision you can listen to the following discussions:

Regular Council Meeting – February 1, 2021 (Starting at 47:36)

Regular Council Meeting – March 22, 2021 (Starting at 37:46)

The Matilda Landfill, located at 10815 Siebert Road accepts leaf and yard waste materials free of charge.

Branches and Brush are NOT compostable and therefore have an associated $10.00 fee. Limbs and tree trunks have additional fees as outlined in the Matilda Landfill Fee Schedule located at the top of the page.

Composting at Home

If you miss the depot days, or the Matilda landfill is inaccessible try setting up a backyard compost of your own. A backyard composter can help you manage your leaves and yard waste as well as your kitchen scraps, helping you clean up your yard and reduce the amount of garbage you are creating!

Did you know that Grass Clippings and Mulched Leaves are great for your lawn! Leaving them on your lawn allows them to decompose and enhance the soil with valuable nutrients that feed the microbes and worms. The nitrogen boost that results from mulching grass and leaves means you don’t have to fertilize in the fall!
