The first 100 residents to call the Municipal Office (613-543-2673) during business hours and speak with a representative will be chosen to participate in the program, pending payment and agreement of terms. Voice messages will not qualify. A waitlist will be available in the event a unit becomes open.

Pilot Program

The Municipality of South Dundas is partnering with the Cornwall/Ottawa based company Food Cycle Science to divert the amount of organic food waste from the Matilda landfill by offering 100 residents the opportunity to purchase a discounted FoodCycler™.

  • The units cost $150+HST (retails for $500+)
  • Payment and agreement to terms must be made prior to the pick-up date
  • One unit per household (ID will be checked)
  • Participants must track usage for 12 weeks and complete an exit survey

Each household will be asked to track how many times they run their FoodCycler™ for 12 weeks. This tracking allows FoodCycler™ Science and the Municipality to estimate the total waste diversion achieved over the 12-week pilot program. At the end of the 12 weeks, participants are asked to fill out an exit survey, providing their review of the program and any other feedback they may have.

About the FoodCycler™

No matter where you live, or how small your kitchen space - FoodCycler™ can fit into your lifestyle. Unlike traditional compost, you can run FoodCycler™ in any season, any time. The unit dries and grinds food waste into a dry, odorless, nutrient dense by-product that is significantly reduced in weight and volume from its unprocessed state. The product is free from bacteria and food-borne pathogens are eliminated in the process.

The FoodCycler™ is easy to use and only requires one cubic foot of space on your counter and a power outlet in order to get started. Simply toss your food scraps into the bucket, press the button, and you’re done. The FoodCycler™ breaks down food waste into a tenth of its original volume and creates a nutrient-rich fertilizer you can add to your gardens. There is a carbon filtration system in the unit to eliminate odors, making it perfect for indoor use.
