The Municipality is expressing our sincerest sympathies and sadness at the devastating news of the discovery of 751 unmarked graves at a cemetery near the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan.
This heartbreaking news, so soon after the remains of 215 Indigenous children in British Columbia were found, is a reminder to reinforce our commitment to address systemic racism in our Country. We cannot change the past, but we can change the future and make it one where no one feels the pain experienced by our Indigenous peoples.
We condemn these actions against Indigenous peoples and pledge ourselves to creating a brighter future for all. The Municipal flags were lowered, starting June 25, 2021, in a small effort to show our support and respect.
